Port Profile

Port of Sindangan before the upgrading of then TMO Dapitan to a PMO in 2008 was under the jurisdiction of PMO-Ozamiz as one of their subports. And in 2009, the ten (10) government ports including the Port of Sindangan and the two (2) private ports were transferred to PMO-Dapitan.
It was then upgraded to a Terminal Management Office as a result of the approval of the Rationalization Plan of PPA by virtue of the Governance Commission for GOCCs(GCG) Memorandum Circular No. 04-2014.

The Port of Sindangan, TMO Sindangan is connected by a concrete road to the national highway about three 2.20 kilometers away, approximately 89 kilometers away from Dipolog City and 234 kilometers away from Zamboanga City. It lies 123 degrees .01 minute east longitudes and 8 degrees, 23 minutes north latitudes.

The Port of Sindangan, TMO Sindangan is connected by a concrete road to the national highway about 2.20 kilometers away, approximately 89 kilometers away from Dipolog City and 234 kilometers away from Zamboanga City. Hence, the municipality is identified as the trading hub of the province considering, this is a major terminal point for links to Dipolog City down to Ipil and further down south to Zamboanga City.

- Topography
Sindangan lies on the northwest corridor of Zamboanga del Norte. Its diverse geography ranges from Sulu Sea on the west and southwest, the Municipality of Leon Postigo, on the south, the Municipality of Siayan on the east, the Municipality of Bayug, Zamboanga del Sur on the southeast, the municipality lies 123 degrees .01 minute east longitudes and 8 degrees, 23 minutes north latitudes.

The topography of the town is generally coastal on the western parts while on the eastern sides are uplands. It consists mostly of alluvial, gently sloping hills and rock lands (82.5%), plain to slightly rolling and hilly to the mountainous area (15%) and inland valleys (2.5%) along its western coast facing the Sulu Sea. There are four major rivers traverse the area; Piao River (2.7km), Sindangan River (3.1km), Ingin River (9.3km), and Talinga River (13.7 km) a number of waterways such as rivers, small creeks and streams.
Port of Sindangan is composed of a reclaimed land area with a single structure protruding out into the sea-facing the southwest.
- Oceanography
Due to the location is near to the river, the soil beneath the seabed is muddy. The deepest portion near the RC Pier is about 11 meters.
- Climatological Condition
Sindangan enjoys relatively mild weather all year long which has a dry season from December to April and wet season from May to November. Lying on a niche in western Mindanao far from Pacific Ocean, the town is sheltered from typhoons though strong winds and rains that occasionally hit the town from the southwest monsoon in the months from June to August. At an average temperature of 28.2 °C, April is the hottest month of the year. At 26.9 °C on average, January is the coldest month of the year. Between the driest and wettest months, the difference in precipitation is 266 mm. The rainfall averages 2538 mm.
The waters around the Port of Sindangan are calm from mid-October to July as it is protected from the “Timog” or Easterly Wind and the “Amihan” or the Northeasterly Wind by land mass located on the east and north of the port. During Habagat season however, from August to mid-October, when the wind comes from the South West and West, the waters around the port maybe a little choppy.

The nearest active fault in the area is located at Leon B. Postigo, Zamboanga Del Norte.
